Rand Fishkin over at SEOmoz presented his thoughts about Google's new "over-optimization" penalty starting to take affect. What Google is basically looking for is content, meta tags, links, and other pieces of information that obviously exist only to influence rankings rather than promote user-friendliness.
We did a quick scan of this Weebly blog, and low and behold, we found a few things that caught our attention: a few title tags, some internal links, pages that didn't need to be there, etc. After some quick on-site tweaks, we went out and made sure to delete any back links that pointed to those unnecessary pages.
We agree with what Google is trying to do. They just want spammers to stop being spammers. They want SEO's to take this stuff seriously. Rather than creating and optimizing a website for search engines, it's better to create and optimize a website for human beings instead.
